First the cars for the program are chosen according to strict guidelines. They cannot be more than six years old, and no CPO Ford may have more than 80,000 miles on the odometer. That's just the beginning. The cars then have to be inspected. More than 170 points must pass the inspection before the car can be added to the certified pre-owned Ford inventory.
