Ford has created something to be proud of with the fully-redesigned 2018 Ford Expedition. The body-on-frame SUV has always been a heavy hauler, but this year it is aiming for the title best in class for towing, with a new-and-improved 9,300-pound trailer rating.

If that sounds close to what you could expect from a light-duty pickup, that's because the Expedition is essentially a Ford F-150 wearing an SUV's body.

The Expedition is standard rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive optional. Its cargo area (when seating is folded flat) is large enough to fit 4x8-foot plywood. It shares the same 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine with the F-150, and is shedding 300 pounds for 2018 by switching to aluminum body panels. The redesigned Expedition will also offer the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, same as the trucks.

If you need a tough truck that can comfortably seat eight passengers, then check out the 2018 Expedition SUV at Northside Ford Lincoln. It arrives this fall, so keep an eye out.
